The Glassware Core provides glassware washing and sterilization of all types of glassware and pipettes. The facility maintains a stock glassware in a common storage area. Glassware personnel collect glassware from laboratories daily and cabinets are replenished regularly. Autoclaving of materials is offered on a daily basis. The core can accommodate any special requests.

Quarterly Testing of DI Water
DI water from throughout the Lerner Research Institute complex is tested for Endotoxins on a quarterly basis. Results are available in NB1-15.

Amsco Reliance 444
The Amsco Reliance 444 from Steris Corporation is a mechanical washer/disinfector. The washer/disinfector is designed with seven adjustable cycles: instruments, gentle, utensils, glassware, plastic goods, anesthesia/respiratory goods and decontamination. The glassware core has four Reliance 444s connected by an Automated Transport System (A.T.S) The ATS is capable of pushing and pulling the washer baskets automatically on to and off of the washer load tables.
Finn-Aqua Steam Sterilizer or Autoclave
The Finn-Aqua Steam Sterilizer or Autoclave is a steam-jacketed sterilizer designed to process a variety of loads using saturated steam under pressure and mechanical or gravity air removal principles. The unit is equipped with a fully-programmable microcomputer control system. The sterilizer is able to process cycles for sterilizing hard goods, lightly wrapped porous loads and liquid loads in vented containers.

Glassware Sterility Procedures - LRI/BME/GMI/NC/NN
All glassware provided and stocked by Glass Wash Services in the cabinets and shelves, on the floors of the Lerner Research Institute and outside the Glass Wash Service areas in NB1 are sterile. There is no need to re-sterilize the glassware in these areas. Please see the sterility procedures posted in the autoclave rooms on the various floors and outside the Media Lab NB1-15 for sterilizing procedures. In addition to this, biological indicators and steam strips are used for each autoclaved load. Dry heat indicators are used in the hot air ovens. All glassware is thoroughly inspected before stocking in the common glassware area.
